UConn-Villanova at the half

HARTFORD, Conn. — There are two games going on. The fist is when Shabazz Napier is in the game, the second is when Napier is out of the game.

Napier picked up two quick fouls in the first half and when he was of the floor UConn struggled going six minutes without scoring. When he came back in, a risky move, the Huskies offense hummed.

UConn leads 33-30 at the half and is shooting 55 percent from the floor against Villanova.

Napier only took one shot in the first half and didn’t score, but he had six assists in nine minutes of action and organized the offensive beautifully.

The Huskies lead is a bit disconcerting with the Wildcats shooting 32 percent from the floor, but have forced nine first half turnovers from the Huskies.

UConn’s getting a terrific game out of DeAndre Daniels, who has nine points and one thunderous dunk.  Omar Calhoun has seven points including 5 of 5 from foul line.  Ryan Boatright is also scoreless at 0 for 2 shooting. Leon Tolksdorf, a backup forward from Germany if you are drawing a blank, has two 3-pointers for the Huskies.

It’s a weird half. Napier and Boatright are scoreless and the Huskies shot 55 percent from the floor, but only lead 33-30.

Ryan Arcidiacono is having a big game for the Wildcats with 17 first half points including 3 of 6 from 3-point range.
