UConn-Cincinnati at the half

HARTFORD, Conn. — It has all the excitement of a pickup game at the YMCA here at the XL Center.

The game isn’t bad, the Huskies lead 37-34 with some good shooting by both teams, but the atmosphere is quiet and the edge that you would expect from a Big East game is gone.

Defense seems to optional with each scorer getting to where they want to get on the floor.

Perhaps all of us were asking too much for a pair of 7-loss teams.

As far as the basketball, Shabazz Napier and Ryan Boatright have delivered in the first half with a combined 18 points. That’s triple the total points in a loss to Villanova last Saturday.

The Huskies shot 46 percent from the floor and 6 of 11 from 3-point range. Cincinnati leads 19-12 on the all-important boards, but UConn has 12 free throws attempted in the half.

For Cincinnati, Cashmere Wright with 10 points in the half.

One concerning aspect of the game is the Bearcats’ ability to get in the lane with ease. Cincinnati has 16 points in the paint in the first half.
