Injury bug hits UConn women again

By Carl Adamec

The University of Connecticut women’s basketball team may be short-handed — again — when it takes on No. 15 Louisville at the XL Center in Hartford Tuesday night.

All-American junior guard Bria Hartley and freshman forward Breanna Stewart are listed as doubtful by the third-ranked Huskies for their Big East game with the Cardinals with left ankle injuries.

Stewart was injured during Friday’s practice and sat out Saturday’s 85-51 win over Marquette at the Al McGuire Center in Milwaukee. Hartley, who missed UConn’s first two games with a left ankle injury suffered during the summer, was hurt Saturday after playing only five minutes following a collision with Marquette’s Katherine Plouffe while going for a loose ball. She had her left ankle retaped but did not return.

Five players on UConn’s 11-player roster have missed games due to injury at the midway point of the regular season — Kiah Stokes (5), Morgan Tuck (3), Hartley (2), Stewart (1) and Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis (1).
