Bria Hartley’s injured left ankle is getting better but it won’t get her on the court for the second-ranked University of Connecticut women’s basketball team’s game at No. 16 Texas A&M Sunday.
The All-America junior guard missed the first game of her career against College of Charleston last Sunday with the ankle injury suffered in August in the FIBA 3×3 world championships. The Huskies had hoped she would be back for next week’s Paradise Jam in the Virgin Islands but that return is now labeled as questionable.
“She worked out, not with us … But she did some stuff the last two days and she said she felt really good,” UConn coach Geno Auriemma said Thursday. “It feels a lot better than it did Sunday so that’s a good sign. I’m really, really optimistic. Not about this weekend, but she’ll be back soon.”
Hartley was one of five Huskies named to the 2013 Naismith Award early season watch list Thursday along with senior Kelly Faris, junior Stefanie Dolson, sophomore Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis, and freshman Breanna Stewart.
