Signing Day drama
John F. Silver
UConn’s class of 24 players is out, and with it likely the most highly regarded class in UConn history.
There is one big name missing in Plano, Texas QB Richard Lagow. UConn received a late commitment from Xavier’s Tim Boyle, who was a highly recruited QB who de-committed from Boston College. Lagow, who committed in the summer, has maintained he is still singing with UConn but apparently is ill. Boyle signed a Letter of Intent and Lagow hasn’t been heard from.
Then, late in the day on Wednesday, the Huskies signed a 6-5 player named Kivon Taylor out of Atlanta, Ga. Taylor is an athletic dual-threat type quarterback and was procured by Darrell Perkins. Is Taylor a QB? Signing Day presser is in an hour and what does that mean to the QB position at UConn?
If Taylor is a quarterback it is hard to fathom the Huskies taking 3 QBs in one class. Where does that leave Lagow?
Here’s the 24 person class. Besides Taylor, the other surprise is Michael Boland, a defensive tackle from Dunmore, Pa. the other commit that has gone MIA is Javon Summers, a wide receiver out of New Jersey.
I was at TE Tommy Myers of Coventry and DE Cole Ormsby of Windsor’s signing day events and will have something up on each. First impressions? Myers is a big guy at 6-4, 240-pounds and is incredibly athletic. he might play right away out of necessity. Ormsby? Very tall and long, reminds me a bit of former Huskies DE Lindsey Witten. He also almost broke my hand with a handshake.
Here is UConn’s class.
