Updated: RB Williams arrested for alleged credit card theft

UConn running back Joe Williams, who was suspended by the team for a violation of team rules on Monday, was arrested for alleged credit card theft and two other charges according to UConn police.

Williams, 19 from North Hampton, Pa.,  was arrested Aug. 9 according to UConn police and charged with credit card theft, illegal use of a credit card and larceny in the sixth degree. He was released on $1,000 non-surety bond.

According to the police report, the police were investigating an incident that happened on April 12, 2013 where a credit card and $60 were stolen from a wallet. Police investigated the theft then applied for an arrest warrant on Aug. 1. According to police, the credit card was used to make a purchase of $124.90 that was allegedly shipped to Williams’ home in North Hampton, Pa.

Williams turned himself in to police at 5:25 p.m. on Friday Aug. 9. His court date is Aug. 20.

UConn suspended Williams from the team indefinitely on Monday and declined any comment on the matter.
