Cersosimo leaving UConn staff

University of Connecticut defensive backs coach Matt Cersosimo has resigned his job with the school and will pursue other opportunities the school confirmed on Saturday night.

Cersosimo

Cersosimo, the Huskies’ recruiting coordinator, spent eight years with the Huskies, mostly as a wide receivers coach. He was switched this past spring to defensive backs coach when T.J. Weist came to UConn. Weist is the offensive coordinator and the wide receivers coach.

Nothing is official yet, but Cersosimo is expected to take over for his father at Conard High School. His father is a long-time high school coach in Connecticut.

As far as a replacement, former UConn player Shane Fogarty is likely to get the job according to sources. Fogarty, a former walk-on and grad assistant with the Huskies, was an assistant coach at Fordham under former UConn coordinator Joe Morehead.

There is a posting for a defensive backs coach on the UConn job website — per state regulations– though all indications are that Fogarty is the replacement.

Cersosimo is the third UConn coach to leave in the offseason. Defensive coordinator Don Brown (Boston College) and running backs coach Clayton White (N.C. State) also departed.
