UConn junior center Stefanie Dolson had been selected by the United States Basketball Writers Association as its Ann Meyers Drysdale Women’s National Player of the Week for games ending the week of Sunday, Jan. 20.
As the Big East Player of the Week, Dolson was nominated for the weekly award, which was chosen by a representative of the USBWA board of directors from a list of Division I conference players of the week. It’s the first time a UConn player has picked up the USBWA honor.
Dolson averaged 20.5 points per game, 8.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists in the Huskies’ wins over Louisville and Syracuse last week. She became the 36th UConn player to reach 1,000 career points in the victory over the Orange.
