Dolson, Hartley add to postseason legacy

UNCASVILLE, Conn. — Seniors Bria Hartley and Stefanie Dolson have won 25 of 28 postseason games that they’ve been a part of in their careers with the University of Connecticut women’s basketball team.

The latest win came Monday night as the top-seeded Huskies walloped No. 2 Louisville 72-52 in the American Athletic Conference tournament final at Mohegan Sun Arena. Hartley had 16 points and six assists while Dolson had a double-double of 10 points and a season high 16 rebounds.

And with their third league tourney crown in four years the duo added their names to another list of the best that UConn has to offer.

Dolson joined former All-American Kara Wolters as the only UConn players to be named to four league all-tournament teams. Hartley, meanwhile, joined Dolson on the all-tournament team making the classmates the ninth and 10th Huskies to be named to a postseason all-tournament team in each of their four seasons.

“I’m proud of myself,” Dolson said. “After that first year I knew I had to get better and I think I have. I’ve had a great college career and I have a great college story to tell.

“I’m just excited to win is this year with this team. I think every year I’ve gotten that award I’ve given a lot of credit to my teammates for just kind of pushing me through and getting me through.”

UConn sophomore Breanna Stewart was named the Most Outstanding Player.

Hartley has been named to the league all-tournament team three times, missing in 2013. But she went on to be named to the all-Final Four team in New Orleans.

Dolson averaged 11.7 points and 10.3 rebounds in the three wins while Hartley checked in at 15.0 points and 6.7 assists.

“You don’t think about the pressure at this point, you just go out and play,” Hartley said. “I love to play and want to make plays that help my teammates.”

“I think everyone on our team thrives on the energy and what’s at stake,” Dolson said. “For this game, we’ve already played them twice and knew what we were in for. People stepped up and were ready to go.”

The other UConn players named to an all-tournament team in four years are Wolters, Asjha Jones, Swin Cash, Diana Taurasi, Ann Strother, Barbara Turner, Renee Montgomery, and Maya Moore.
