Calhoun wins Big East Rookie of the Week honors for the second time this season after averaging 15.5 ppg in a 1-1 week for UConn. He posted team highs of 15 points and six rebounds in a 66-58 win against No. 6/7 Syracuse. Calhoun recorded 16 points and a team-high six rebounds in a 70-61 loss to Villanova. For the season, Calhoun is averaging 11.5 ppg.
Calhoun has developed nicely in his freshman season. He was 4 of 5 from 3-point range against Syracuse, but then became a slasher taking it to the basket against Villanova where he was 9 for 9 from the foul line. Villanova attempted to run him off the 3-point line, and Calhoun prospered taking it hard to the basket. Calhoun was the most effective offensive player for the Huskies against Villanova.
UConn is off until Thursday, when it hosts Cincinnati in Hartford.
