At the half: UConn 57, Charleston 13

By Carl Adamec

It’s all UConn, and then some.
Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis has 14 points as the Huskies have taken a 57-13 lead over College of Charleston at halftime of the regular season opener at Gampel Pavilion Sunday afternoon.
UConn actually spotted Charleston the game’s first basket on a Latisha Harris jumper. But Mosqueda-Lewis hit three straight 3-pointers to spark a 19-0 run that put UConn in front. At 19-7, a 22-0 Huskies’ run made it a 34-point lead.
Breanna Stewart has 10 points and Caroline Doty eight for UConn, which shot 63 percent from the floor in the first half and has a 26-10 advantage in rebounds. Charleston is shooting 22 percent from the floor and has committed 16 turnovers.
This is the final game of a two-game deal between the schools. The Huskies defeated the Cougars 72-24 a year ago.
