STORRS, Conn. — It had been a long day for the DePaul women’s basketball team even before it arrived at Gampel Pavilion for its game with No. 3 UConn Sunday.
The first half didn’t make it much better.
Stefanie Dolson has 22 points as the Huskies have taken a 52-27 lead over DePaul at halftime of their Big East game.
The Blue Demons were scheduled to arrive Saturday but could not get into Connecticut because of the blizzard. Bradley International Airport opened this morning and they arrived in Windsor Locks at 12:20 p.m. Their bus picked them up about 45 minutes later and they arrived here at just about 2:15 p.m. for the 3:40 p.m. tip.
UConn (21-1 overall, 8-1 Big East) scored 11 unanswered points — five by Dolson, four by Bria Hartley — to take a 15-3 lead. After a 3-pointer by DePaul’s Megan Podkowa, UConn went on a 9-0 run for a 24-6 lead. The Huskies closed the half with an 11-4 spurt to take the 25-point lead.
Dolson’s career high is 25 points set earlier this year. She is 6-for-8 from the floor, making her only 3-pointer, and 9-for-9 at the foul line. She also has four rebounds and four assists.
Hartley has 10 points for UConn. Podkowa leads DePaul (17-6, 6-3) with eight points.
